Files missing from datastores

This is my home hypervisor, so all storage is DAS non-raid.

I recently had a crash of the disk containing all guests. It's now installed with a new disk for guests, but when i look under storage/datastores, it's even less fun than the crash.

All my disk seems to be empty, even though there should be a vmdk filling all disks.

vmdkmiss.PNG

If i log in via SSH the result is the same.

How could this have happened? And is there any way to restore the vmdks?

11 TB of data lost?

Error "Could not find trusted signer"

Hi All,

I am trying to customise ESXi 5.0 installation by using PowerCLI image builder and VMware depot file as the base. i need to add some NIC drivers during the customization and create a bundle .zip file to be used during autodeploy.

Using Image Builder through PowerCLI, I am able to use Add-EsxSoftwareDepot to add the base VMware Autodeploy depot file and also add the NIC driver as software packages (using Add-EsxSoftwarePackage).

I am also able to export the new profile image to a bundle or ISO.

Using the bundle when I try to run the Export-EsxImageProfile command it throws an error “Could not find a trusted signer”. This is because the NIC drivers are self-signed by the vendor and not signed by a trusted source.

At this stage I am able to get through using –NoSignatureCheck and proceed with creating the .zip or ISO file.

Now when I connect to the vCenter server using PowerCLI and create a New-DeployRule I face the same error. "Could not find trusted signer"
This time, I see that the new deploy rule command doesn’t have a –NoSignature check parameter.

I extracted the ZIP and added the certificates in the VIB to vCenter server’s trusted root. I ran the New-DeployRule command again, and still face the same error.

I am looking for a workaround for this so that I can test the new NIC’s. I have tried to make this work by changing the acceptance level to CommunitySupported and also the Set-ExecutionPolicy in PowerShell to Bypass/Allsinged/RemoteSigned. Still I face the same error.

thanks...

I can't seem to figure out the PCoIP Secure Gateway or HTTPS Secure Tunnel options on my Connection Server.

Here is my set up and what I want to accomplish.

I have one Connection server on the internal network. I have on Security server on the DMZ. I want all clients that have a VM Desktop to access that desktop directly thru the Connection server - using PCoIP only.

I want any external client, coming in over the Internet, to hit the Security server first, again over PCoIP. However, I have some managed physical PC's that I manage with View. These PCs only have the ability to be accessed via 3389 (RDP) and they will be accessed by external clients. So, I want them to hit the Security server.

I have an external IP, Certificate, etc all setup. The security server is setup and the connection server is setup. I have FW rules open for all the required PCoIP ports and have 3389 open for the 4 or 5 physical desktops.

Here is my problem. I can't seem to figure out why I can't access those physical PCs over 3389. All I get is a message that the connection failed. On the connection server I have the option for PCoIP Secure Gateway check and the external IP (not the IP of the Security server) entered like this: xx.x.xxx.xx:4172

IF I check the box to use HTTPS Secure Tunnel connection to the desktop as well, I can connect to those physical PCs. However, it does so over HTTPS and not 3389; we see this in the FW captures. Which is what I don't want.

Can someone help me understand what I should be setting here to accomplish what I want?

Thanks

Location of sites in VMware Directory Services

I want to look at where the SSO sites are stored in directory services. I did this before like 6 months ago but now for the life of me I can't find it. Using ADSIEDIT I connect to my server using dc=virtualcenter, dc=vmware, dc=int. It connects and I can browse but there's no site info. I KNOW I've seen this before. Google has been no help. Am I using the wrong connection point?

Can someone please educate me?

Thanks,

Datastore script listing cluster, datastore name, provisioned space, capacity space used and free space

$

I am trying to write a PowerShell script for datastores - listing by cluster, the datastore name, provisioned space, capacity space used and free space. Exportable to csv file. Adding in used/total IOPS would be a bonus. All our datastores are thin provisioned.

I was hoping to have this automate daily to list a trending report/graph to know when a future date we may max out at.

I am trying to create storage metrics at the SAN level which is the same as pulling the datastore information.

Thank you very much for any and all help!

VDP backups always fail regardless of state

$

Hello,

I have tried to deploy VDP of several versions with the same result in order to evaluate the product but can't get it to backup a single host regardless of powered on or shut down. The deployment were done following the VDP administration guide to the point.

During the process I started out with VDP 5.1 then upgraded both vcenter server and VDP to 5.5 and 5.5.6 respectively with almost the same issue. I have set new vdp users with administrative permissions, redeployed vdp, tested several different vm hosts in all possible states with or without snapshots present but same result. Backup starts but fail in under a minute due to what looks like no permission to read the .vmx file, I can however download and view the file using infrastructure client as long as the vm host is shut down.

I have also tried all suggested solutions that I could find on the kb, no special chars in the datacenter etc.

I am starting to get a bit frustrated and the feeling is that this product is flawed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The most recent attempts in VDP 5.5.6 give the following log output:

No SSO, No Users/Groups To Manage

I have inherited a VMware 5.5 environment.  We are trying to delegate roles to our team.  However, I do not have a section listed for "Single Single-On," and then "Users and Groups."  I logged in as administrator and same thing.  I do notice a yellow: "Failed to initialize start-up services" at the top when logging in as administrator.

Googling hasn't helped yet.  Please advise.

This is what it should look like (got from a webpage here: Hostile Coding: VMware: Users, Groups and Roles management in vSphere 5.5)

Será problema no VMware?

Alguém tem alguma dica?

Hyperic Alert - Configure E-Mail Alert via API - How to

$

Dear community,

I use Hyperic 4.6.

With the help of HQ API ( Java API), I was able to create Alerts

for the Resources. But I want to make it as an E-Mail Alert.

Say for a Resource Agent , I configure 6 Alerts via API.

Now I have nearly 40 Agents being monitored.

So 40*6=240 Alerts.

How can I configure E-Mail Alerts as well via API ?

I feel that manually mapping 240 Alerts with an Email ID is difficult.

Can you please suggest a way, so that while creating alerts  via API itself, I shall be able to mark the alert with an Email Address, so that

when ever alert gets triggered, marked Email addresses will be notified via Email.

Today, I tried to install Workstation 10 on Ubuntu 14.04 x64. When I run vmware with root.

It prompts me license dialog. But when I tried to use trial license, it warns me

"Failed to register license. This may be because the root password is required to register your license. Please contact a system administrator with any questions."

What's the problem, Do anyone can help me? Thank you!

Host Debian Jessie

Guest Kail Linux 1.08 using iso

kali-linux-1.0.8-amd64.iso

Kali Linux 1.08 was released with EFI support (see http://www.kali.org/news/kali-1-0-8-released-uefi-boot-support/

However  it would not in fact install using EFI using  either a SATA for SCSI disk.

Kali installs fine using BIOS+SCSI.

Screenshots are attaached for SATA and SCSI boot failures as well the .vmx and vmware.log for the SATA attempt.

How to Configure IPv6 Network in vCloud Director 5.1?

Hello, I have been searching for clear documents on how to configure the Network Properties so that my isolated vApp can use IPv6.

Per my attached image, you can see that I have the following inserted into the fields:

Gateway address - 1920:1680:0020:0001::64

Network Mask - 255.255.255.0 - I think this is wrong but this is the only thing that keeps the field blue, everything else I have tried per IPv6 documentation turns the field red. I even tried using the ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff as well as 2001::1 but nothing worked.

Primary DNS - 1920:1680:0020:0201::64

Secondary DNS - Blank

DNS suffix - ipv6.training.com

Static IP Pool - I have tried so many different things and nothing seems to work. How do I get an IPv6 range into this field?

My companies product is virtualized and everything works fine with IPv4, our product now supports IPv6 and I need to get this setup so I can create training on our product but have not figured out how to get IPv6 working.

Help please in moving from Fusion 3 to Fusion 6 - can't afford to mess it up!!

Hi all

Could I please ask for some help from you guys?

I have three macs all running 10.6.8, all of which have a boot camp partition running XP pro 32bit, and Fusion 3. This works flawlessly, allowing us to switch from our CC apps straight into our XP based workflow software on the fly without booting. Magic! The XP partitions are absolutely vital to our everyday operation, and contain software I wouldn't be able to re-install let alone reconfigure!

Now along comes Adobe, and all the latest CC apps require 10.7 or later. Swell. So I get Mavericks and install it on just one of the three macs, and I can no longer use Fusion 3. OK, so I download the trial of 6 and install that to make sure it all works before doing anything on all three. Unfortunately, this removed my Fusion 3 software so I can't go back....gulp!

Fusion 6 refuses to work now,  and comes up with an error bsod with incompatible boot volume - omg, nooooooo!

So after a coffee and calming down, I tried a different and tack. I made a copy of one of the other macs VM, and then placed it on an external and tried to use File, Open to see if it would read my existing VM. Nope! It did recognise it, as it askedbthat query about did I move it or copy it, but when trying to start the VM, it errored immediately. Help!

What I was thinking was whether I need to go to a version between 3 and 6 perhaps? I have Fusion 4 but never installed it (no need to). Should I install 4? Would that be better for 6 to import?

I really need some experienced help here guys, I can't afford to mess this up on the other two machines! I just need it to work under 6!

Many thanks for any assistance.
