Office on Base, Visio in AppStack

Is it not possible to have the base Office suite (word, excel, outlook, ect.) on the base image and have Visio/Project in a AppStack?

I'm trying with Office 2019 on the base image and I've tried both 2016 and 2019 visio/project.

I can install them when I'm not capturing the installs, but when I do try to capture them it fails.

I use synctoy on my windows machines.  I would like to run synctoy paired with a folder from my mac. I can copy the folder to the vmware OS, but once i get there VMware will not install synctoy, seems to be asking permission to load net frame as part of the install process.  Can anyone help me understand if this is possible or if not I will give up, I just don't know at this point.

Setup/Use of PowerCLI

Hello,

Looking for some instructions on the use of PowerShell and Horizon 7.6.  I have tried following instructions at VMware and elsewhere but it only leads to errors.  None of the scripts run.  Here is what I am trying to do or have done:

- My workstation is Windows 10

As admin, launched PowerShell and executed the following commands:

- Install-Module -Name VMware.PowerCLI -RequiredVersion 10.1.1.8827524

- Install-Module -Name Vmware.PowerCLI

Now I want to simply query the Horizon environment for Pool info, VM info, etc.

Should I be doing this ON the Connection server rather than on my Windows 10 Desktop?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Combine vSphere licenses to increase support contract.

Hello,

I have seen various posts that have discussed the combining of VMware licenses to assist with organization within the portal. Many of these posts indicate that you can in fact combine licenses with different activation times but almost all explicitly state that this will not increase the SnS. I am hoping to learn the process on how to increase the support.

The scenario:

vSphere licenses were sold with 3 years when licenses should have been 5 years. The account team was able to provide the other 2 years on another quote on a later date (took about 6 months). We now have the current 3 year licenses which have been active since last August and now we want to combine the 2 years with the in use 3 year licenses. We are hoping to have the two licenses combined to hit that 5 years ( or what the 4.5 years as we have been running on the first set of licenses). Is there a clean process to do this?

Win 7 to 10 upgrade SVGA 3D problems help

I have jsut attempted to upgrade Windows to 10 (Macbook 15" retina, VMWare Fusion 11.5.1). I think I overrode the error message that my device is not compatible with Windows 10 because of display problems with SVGA. That is, I may have installed Windows 10 but the display is wrong and won't show me the information I need to install it.

From reading around in this forum - a lot of 2015 messages included - I thought I could manually uninstall VmWare Tools through the library, but Application Support is not showing me VmWare Tools, only VmWare. Should there not be a VmWare Tools folder there?

Could someone please tell me what I could try now, or give me links to information? Many thanks in advance.

Migrate GPOs into Workspace One

Is there an easier way to migrate GPOs from Active Directory into Workspace One other than using MMAT and trying to somehow match settings and then manually have to create the settings in Workspace One Policies?

I've tried the Airwatch GPO MIgration Tool that is online, but it doesnt import everything or leaves a ton of it under "extra registry settings"

There has to be an easier way to get all your GPO settings into Workspace One.

Is it also true that only Administrative Templates can be migrated over?  No Preferences / Settings / etc?  If so, that is really bad.  We have laptops we are looking to fully manage with Workspace One but I cant get all the Policies I want migrated over...

Any help is appreciated...this is a giant hole in Workspace One that Intune can really dominate them at.....

how NSX-T manager choose subnet for TEP if there are more than one subnet in an IP pool

I created one IP address pool and add 2 subnets to it. when I create a transport node profile , it just let me choose IP pools, not choose subnet, and when I use the transport node profile to prepare an ESXi , still never ask me to choose subnet. and Then the ESXi transport node choose an IP address from one subnet to be his TEP address.

My question is : is this subnet choosing random?   maybe the ESXi cluster I prepared need another subnet to be connected to the physical network, how can I choose the subnet manually?

vCenter alerts for vSAN health?

$

Howdy,

We've been running all flash VxRail clusters for over a year now with a mix of workloads for remote offices and VDI. We're starting to run into more disk related issues that we'd like to get more advanced warning of. VxRail has built in "phone home" AKA SRS that works maybe 50% of time when it comes to detecting problems. This appears due to a disconnect between vCenter vSAN and the underlying h/w layer. We find many problems in vCenter with vSAN that VxRail mgr doesn't even know about unless a disk outright fails.

We had a degraded cache disk this week that was showing extreme latency all of a sudden and caused extreme slowness for many VDI guests.

I've been reviewing vCenter 6.7u2 predefined alerts but can't seem to find any that focus on storage latency/health. Anyone have any suggestions for a way to stay in front of impending storage issues?

Thanks,

Fish

Why can't I see a validation message?

Hello !

I set up to enter "Machine Name" when deploying the VM.

By default, over 15 characters, the VM deployment failed and I set it to display error message to the user when they type 2~15 characters.

However, only the Red " ! " mark comes out.

It doesn't display a validation message!

What am I missing?

Kindly advice to me.

Inbuilt screensaver in VMware Workstation?

$

After switching to Workstation 15, my virtual machines have started switching to black screen if they idle for a few minutes. As they're all Linux servers running in text mode, and didn't blank the screen with Workstation 9, I don't think this is a feature of the guest OS, but something the virtual machine does.

How can I turn this off, or at least change the amount of time before the screen blanks? I am watching the output of the machines, and having to select them and press a key to see the output is driving me nuts.

I searched the docs and googled, but while I found one other user with the same problem, I didn't find any solution.

vSphere Replication: How to Replicate 2 VMs at the EXACT same time

Hello

We are looking at using vSphere Replication between two sites (Live & DR).

We have a fairly basic set-up, but have a requirement to replicate an APP and DB server.  However, we need the snapshots for the replication to happen at exactly the same time to ensure the data for the two servers are keep in sync.

Is they a way of configuring Replication to ensure this happens?

Thanks!

App Volume 2 vs 4

Can someone post in a nutshell why i should be going to version 4?

My environment is hitting a hard wall where I can't upgrade view past 6.  Technically I could upgrade my connection servers to 7.10 or 7.11, but i would have to continure to use view agent 6 because that's the highest version view agent, a zero client tera1 chip will connect to.  I don't have App volumes but will start building that shortly and will have to go with 2.18 and not 4 because App Volume 4 is compatible with 7.10 and 7.11.

Network Adapter - Custom: Specific virtual Network keeps changing

$

Hi there, I'm running the latest version of VMware Workstation 15 Pro - 15.5.1 build-15018445 on a Windows 10 Pro machine

I've seen a similar thread in this forum but with Workstation 14.  I have the latest updated version of Workstation 15 Pro

My VM's seem to change the custom virtual network each time I power them down and power them up.

So if I need the Network Adapter to stay on VMnet3, it will change over to VMnet2 or something else the next time I boot it up.

I've tried putting in some settings to the .vmx file  but it still changes.

ethernet0.connectiontype = "custom"

ethernet0.vnet = "vmnet3"

serial0.present = "TRUE"

serial0.pipe.endpoint = "server"

serial0.startconnected = "TRUE"

ethernet0.displayname = "VMnet3"

Is there anything I can do to make the setting permanent?

thanks!

Matt

Password for importing the ".vmdk" file

Is it possible to have a security password for my ".vmdk" file?

The idea is that only I can import the Workstation.

In other words, if a person takes my file, they won't be able to open it ...

Any idea?

Hi there,

maybe you have a clue. VMWare workstaion pro (15.5.1) works fine after installation on a debian 10, however the vmware-workstation-server will not start.

(I changed the port to 43443)
