get-stat network script

I'm looking to use get-stat to get some network related info.  Here is what I need to do:

 

select a group of vms

for each vm, select only virtual network adapter 1 (vnic1) not vnic 2. (some vms have 2 or more vnics)

find the avg peak throughput in Mbps for that virtual network adapter only.  Make it as accurate as I can based on statistics level 1.   Peak of last 24 hours is OK. (I'd like to plan for the peaks)

Create a table such as below I can export to csv.

 

Ideas?

Application-Consistent Quiescing on Windows Server 2012 Guests with ESXi 5.0 U2

We're running ESXi 5.0 U2 (build 1254542) and we're having issues doing application-consistent quiescing on our VMs that run Windows Server 2012.

We use Acronis vmProtect, and it's throwing warnings on our 2012 VMs about the SQL VSS Writer not being available.  I've contacted Acronis support and they've indicated that it's an issue with application-consistent quiescing.

 

When I take a snapshot of a 2012 VM (checking the option to perform an application-consistent snapshot) the snapshot completes fine with no errors or warnings.  But when I investigate the vss_manifests zip file that gets created, it has only a single file (backup.xml) with a single line.

When I take a application-quiesced snapshot on our VMs that run server 2008, the vss_manifests zip file also contains files for each of the VSS writers.

 

I've verified that disk.EnableUUID is set to true (the VMs were created on ESXi 5.0 U2 with Virtual Machine Version 8).  I've even manually specified it.

I've verified that the VMs are only using SCSI disks (there's only 1 disk) and that it's not a GPT or Dynamic disk within the guest OS.  It's a thin provisioned disk, if that matters.

I've verified that VMWare Tools is installed on the guest, and I've tried reinstalling it.

 

Is there something else I should be looking at to get application-consistent quiescing working on Windows Server 2012?

 

Do I have to be running ESXi 5.1 for this to work?  (Or could I just install the later version of VMWare Tools manually?)

 

If I have to be running ESXi 5.1, are the ESXi 5.0 licenses valid for 5.1?  (We have the vCenter Server 5 Essentials license.)

If I have to be running ESXi 5.1, do I also have to upgrade our vCenter Server installation from 5 to 5.1?

Storage vMotion a VM except disk that resides on another datastore

Hello,

 

I am looking to convert a large number of VMs from linked clones to Thick.  I have decided the easiest way to perform this is probably a simple a storage vMotion, however all VMs have a secondary disk that resides on another datastore.  I need to ensure that Disk#2 remains in it's current location while the VM (Config Files and Disk#1) get moved to a new datastore datastore.

 

I've figured out how to move an entire VM or a single disk but not a VM minus one disk.  I am able to do so through the advanced options in powerthe vSphere client so I presume this is techinically possible.

 

Any pointers or other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Can vSphere/ESXi run on different CPU architecture?

We want to implement VMware infrastructure and looking into purchasing vSphere Ess. Plus. We are not implementing shared storage. We will have 3 ESXi host total.

I want to save money as much as possible. I have an HP Proliant DL380p Gen8 and a DL385 G7 servers. Per HP, both are compatible with ESXi 6.0. I would like to use these two servers and only have to purchase one server.

The DL380p is Intel and the DL385 is AMD. Can this setup work or do all server need to be Intel?

ExtraConfig for monitor_control.pseudo_perfctr in ovf is causing vCloudDirector to fail validation of ovf

My VM is required to have the following line in the ovf:

 

<vmw:ExtraConfig vmw:key="monitor_control.pseudo_perfctr" vmw:value="TRUE"></vmw:ExtraConfig>

 

This enables access to a performance monitor register that is used to generate entropy for random number generation. vCloudDirector apparently does not allow ExtraConfig elements. Is there another way to enable access to this register that is compatible with vCloudDirector?

CPU and RAM Over Commitment - General Strategies

Hey All,

 

I need to come up with some general guidelines for VMware Cluster resource commitment levels. I have a team dedicated to VM builds that meets once a week. I want to provide them a report they can use to determine cluster commitment levels are nearing the need for growth. I'm thinking to define specific CPU and RAM commitment maximums by cluster. When these are reached we would do no further builds to the cluster until it's grown or resources freed up.

 

What commitment ratios are you all using in general? vCPU to pCPU ratio are you using (4:1, 1:1)? What about RAM?

 

I'm also considering break up clusters by vCPU count of the VMs and have strict ratios for each; =<4 vCPU on a 4:1 cluster, 5-8 vCPU on a 2:1 and >8 on a 1:1. We’d have to define RAM levels as well.

 

Thoughts on this? How have some of you approached this?

Module 7 of HOL-SDC-1401 doesn't have Compliance tab showing

Hello,

 

I was trying to do Module 7 of HOL-SDC-1401, and I ran the restartVCM script which looks like it finished.  However, when I login to vROM and go to the compliance tab for all objects, it just shows “?” and says there are 5 unknown objects.  It doesn’t show up active as shown in the lab.

 

See the screenshot below.  I also tried to load the “HVM – vR Ops 6” bookmarked instance of vROM, but it does not have the WIN2K8R2-1 object mentioned in the module, so I think the main vROM instance should be used.  However, that is the one that shows greyed out as below.

 

Please let me know if I’m doing something wrong, or let me know when the lab module is corrected so I can continue.  Thank you.

WS 11.1 Host openSUSE Tumbleweed

 

Created a Windows Server 2012  VM

 

Modifedi VM for Hypler-V instatllation (Virtualize AMD processor, and vmx Hper-V enabling two lines)

 

  Enabled Hhyper-V Virtual network creation OK.

 

  Installed openSUSE 13.2 VM.

 

   Dring installation network was autmatically clonfigured.  Additional repos were enable during installationand after booting opeenSUSE 13.2 Firefox was networked.

 

  So all fine.

 

   However the next time I started the openSUSE 13.2 nested Hypler-V neworing did not work.

 

   This failure has happened several times before and naturally is extremely frustrating.

 

Before I reinstall the Windows 2012 R2 again I need to know if this failure after an inital success has been reported before and if so did did they solve it (how so).  No doubt I missed some stops to solve the problem but won't go all thatg stuff until I know there is some reasonable hope that the Hper-V virtualization will consistently work.

 

If Mr Matson is still lthe moderator of this forum I'm hoping he has some ideas - if not perhaps somebody else.

 

If any VMware logs etc (or other specs) are need to troubleshoot I'm try once more when I have time.

Deploying plugin to virgo server doesn't copy manifest

Hi,


This is intermittent issue. When I deploy plugin (drag and drop onto virgo server runtime), many times the plugin manifest does not get copied in the vsphere-client-sdk\server\stage\myPlugin.jar\META-INF\, thus when environment is started it picks up 0.0.0 version of my bundle. I am using spring tool suite Eclipse Kepler SR2 (4.3.2). Is there any workaround for this apart from manually unzipping jar contents? I have verified that the jar contains MANIFEST.MF inside META-INF directory.

Error while powering on the VM in workstation 11.

After installing VMware workstation 11, i configured windows 2012. But when i am trying to powering on the machine, an error coming.

I tried to change that settings too, but issue still persists. Please find below the detailed screenshot. Please help me to get this resolved.

Has the Office of the CTO ever consider re-instating the VMTN Subscription?

 

I think there are lot of people in the community & home labbers out there who really appreciate it. And think about an army of unpaid evangelist learning all the new goodneess that VMware has - and then promoting it to their businesses?

Disable NIC during OS Customization of a Windows VM?

Does anyone know a way to prevent the NIC on a Windows VM from changing from StartConnected=$false/Connected=$false (desired state) to StartConnected=$true/Connected=$true as the OS Customization Spec is applied on first startup?  As soon as the VIEvent shows the customization has started, the NIC state is changed.

 

There is some Antivirus network communications stuff inside the template, and if the VM connects too soon, the AV database gets screwed up.  We need the NIC in the template to allow patches to be applied, and prefer not to delete/add the NIC because of internal Windows device issues, and not remove the AV software from the template and add it after the deployment.

 

Deleting the NIC Mapping from the Customization Spec fails.  There is no setting I can see to just leave the NIC alone but maybe there is something in the MoRef world that I haven't seen.

 

Setting "Nic".AllowGuestControl=$false doesn't achieve this goal.

 

The approach we're now considering is attaching the VM to a dead-end dvSwitch-based portgroup, starting the VM, then connecting to the "real" portgroup after.  This creates a dependency on the vCenter configuration and vSphere servers to publish that portgroup all over the place.  Unpleasant but manageable.

 

We could also watch VIEvents during the first startup and turn the NIC off as soon as we see it come on.  That seems risky since the VM will be connected to the network for a little while.

 

Environment is PowerCLI 6 connecting to vCenter 5.5

 

Anyone have any thoughts?

Automated VMWare tools deployment question...

Hello,

 

I am working on a deployment script and trying to cover as many "bases" as possible. So I am wondering, after spending quiet a long time googleing, Is it possible to push install VMware tools for the first time to a Windows virtual machine that is not reachable over the network (it does not have an IP)

 

I found that I can update tools if they are "pre-installed" on a machine and I can mount the tools. But can I actually install them directly with PowerCLI without logging into the GUI?

Никогда  не использовал продукт VUM, а теперь буду. Так как перехожу с бесплатных esxi на честно купленную

Так как я стою на берегу и только ищу материал-есть просьба дать ускорение в виде ссылок в правильном направлении

Вот такие вопросы

1) Есть ли возможность не качать Update Manager апдейты с интернета, а скармливать ему скачанные вручную.

В филиале архиплохой интернет. Хотелось бы скачивать в CO, передавать на носителе в филиал раз в месяц и там устанавливать.

Это самый важный вопрос/ Ну и ссылку можно-как это делать?

 

2) VUM ставится на сервер vCenter? Или отдельно можно

3) ОФ. дока хватит или подсыпете ссылок на др. полезные ресурсы

i have now installed ESXi with a new hardware raid controller, and its working perfect, so now i think how can i look about my diske is okay or its fail?

 

Can i someway control my heath status on my raid controller and eg. get a mail if somtings are wrong?

 

My raid controller is LSI MegaRAID SAS 9271-8i - 128xHDD

LSI provider not working under ESXi 6

Hey,

has anyone got the LSI SMIS provider working with ESXi 6? The LSI support site only lists downloads for 5.0 and 5.x. I tried both, but when I try to discover the host with MegaRAID Storage Manager, I'm unable to find it.

Maybe I'm missing something?

Здравствуйте!

 

После включение функции Virtual Flash Read Cache статистика использования жёсткого диска виртуальной машиной показывает 0 (screenshot1.png). Статистика нулевая и в Performance Monitor при просмотре через vShpere Web Client и в vSphere Client. Стоит только отключить Virtual Flash Read Cache - статистика начинает снова отображаться как положено.

vSphere Client version 5.5.0 build 1993072,  vCenter Server version 5.5.0 build 2001466

Что это может быть?
