I am attempting to conduct an unattended installation of VMware ESXi 6.0.0 Update 2 using a kick script on my home lab running VMware Workstation. However when I power on the virtual machine and attempt to conduct the installation everything seems to work as usual. I interrupt the installer to specify boot options using SHIFT+O and then type weasel ks=USB. Then I get a partition error stating unable to initialize. I am hoping this is just because I am conducting a nested setup. I was hoping to test before actually installing on 14 servers at work. Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.
Questions Regarding Unattended Installation of ESXi 6.0.0 Update 2.
Security Warning(s) on vSphere Client Connection?
Every time a vSphere client connects to the server two security warnings are displayed (see the attached image). Clicking View Certiface allows you to "install" the certificate, but always leaves you with this same prompt. Clicking Ignore on both allows you to bypass them and still login properly. I would like to not even have these be presented to the user at all. Any idea on how to do this?
Thanks!
Looking for an Exhaustive List of KickScript Options for Unattended Installation.
I am looking to create a KickScript for unattended installations of VMware ESXi within my company. But I can't seem to find an exhaustive list of commands to use. Does anyone have one? I am looking to do the following.
- Configure Static Network Settings for the Host.
- Disable IPv6.
- Set 1st Two NICs for use with the management Network.
- etc.
implication of turning off network i/o control
Somebody enabled network I/O control on one of our production distributed switches. We don't use network I/O control. I was wondering what the implications are for disabling it now that it has been enabled. Is there any thing I need to consider prior to just selecting the check box to disable the feature. I think somebody must have been testing load balancing policies as I see a couple of port groups using Route based on physical NIC load instead of the default Route based on originating virtual port. I don't want to cause an outage to my environment because I'm trying to clean up settings users were playing with.
Issue removing Shared VM
I'm using workstation 12.5. When I try to stop sharing a VM the wizard wants to copy the VM back to my virtual machines folder. Meanwhile, if I look in Public / Documents /Shared Virtual Machines there are no VMs there. So when I shared the VM it looks like it shared in place and created a duplicate entry in my library, one under my computer and one under shared VMs. So why is it forcing me to copy the VM back to the original location when I stop sharing and it never made a copy to the shared location in the first place? Thanks
Is "Virtual Machine -> Shut Down" or "vmrun -T fusion stop " Equivalent to a Shutdown from within a VM?
I have asked these questions before inside other threads, but never got an answer, so I am starting a separate thread.
In all virtual machines, you can shut them down from within the virtual machines, just as if you are using a real, physical computer. In every case, the operating system shuts down and the virtual machine changes to the "Powered Off' state in VMware Fusion. Here are my questions:
1. If you go to the Virtual Machines menu and choose "Shut Down", is that identical to performing a shutdown from within the guest operating system as I described above, just as if you were logged into a physical computer?
2. Same as above, but use "vmrun -T fusion stop <path to vmx file>" in a command line or shell script?
Follow-up question:
3. Same as above, but use AppleScript? I have seen comments on the internet regarding VMware Fusion and AppleScript, but I can't find an AppleScript dictionary for VMware Fusion.
Explanation:
I have a Windows Server virtual machine that has a running, active Microsoft SQL Server database. If I write a script to shut it down, I want to be absolutely sure that a scripted shutdown is identical to a shutdown from within the guest operating system; one that gracefully stops the database and preserves data integrity on the guest virtual machine.

Hi,
Using: VMware Workstation Pro 12.5
Since I've installed the latest updates (1607) for Windows 10 Enterprise, my Shared folders aren't accessible anymore.
I do see it mentioned in Explorer but it has a red cross.
Does anybody know how to solve this?

BUG: pipe over ssh often freezes incoming ssh in guest
fusion 8.5.0 on sierra
guest ubuntu 16.04 amd64
for the last few versions ive been piping data over ssh, which has worked reliably until now. now, when i try it, it not only hangs and times out, it also freezes out incoming ssh connections for a random time, sometimes until rebooting the guest. during the freeze, all other network traffic works fine. even ssh within the vm, to itself or to nested kvm instances, work fine. this happens randomly, but more often than not. rebooting the host or vm doesnt seem to help.
ssh to other vms, that i dont pipe to, is still reliable.

dvSwitch/standard switch and adding a new cluster into existing Datacentre
Hi Team,
Can I please have your thoughts and guidance on my situation:
Current setup:
Cluster A
3 hosts
6x 1GB NICs (4 used for dvSwitch and 2 for svSwitch)
dvSwitch has 4 NICs and has VM network
svSwitch has 2 NICs and has management/vmotion and VM network
New Setup
Cluster B
3x Hosts
4 NICS (2 NICs for iSCSI storage and 2 for VM network)
Now challenge I have is how can I configure svSwitch and dvSwitch using 2 NICs. As far as I know I cannot.
In new setup if I create svSwitches and move VMs from dvSwitch to svSwitch that would mean downtime for the VMs and reconfiguring networking in the server, Am I right?
Other option is, to add new hosts into the existing dvSwitch but what I am not sure when I add hosts into existing dvswitch, would dvswitch will complain that new hosts do not have same number of NICs? Also in this situation, I would need to setup Management/vMotion network on existing dv switches and any impact of that on existing hosts which already have Management/vMotion network configured on standard switches.
As you may have already guessed I do not know much about dvSwitchesJ
Can you guys please advise what is the best way to go about in this situation?
Thanks
Ajay

vcenter server unable to find a master VSphere HA agent in cluster...
Last night I tried upgrading to VCenter 5.1 and had problems after the install where I could not log in. Being late, I failed back to a snapshot version of my VCenter server taken just prior to the upgrade. After I was able to back into VCenter all my hosts, clusters and VM's were available. But my clusters are all erroring with VCenter Server unable to find a master VShpere HA agent in cluster. Each host under the cluster has an error: VSphere HA agent for the host has an error: The VShpere HA agent is not reachable from VCenter Server.
Under vCenter advanced settings for SSL, if I check the vCenter requires verified host SSL certs, there are no servers showing up in hosts window.
Being a production environment, I'm hesitant to remove the hosts from vcenter, even in disconnect mode, without some assurance that I'm not going to lose my hosts and I'm going to lose my guests or not be able to bring the host back into an HA environment.

esxi NFS store becomes inactive during backup
Hi all,
I have several VMs built on NFS, whenever backup on specific VM, that NFS storage becomes inactive (appeared grey on vsphere "storage")
My esxi is version 5.5.0, NFS is exported from ubuntu 14.04.2, 10G network is used in this NFS export.
I am using backup exec, the NFS storage has sufficient space for snapshot creation.
No error logs about nfsd was found on NFS export server.
The following messages appeared in vmkernel log:

Error while starting Virgo server for HTML Client SDK Fling 5 - missing constraint in bundle
Hi,
I've downloaded html-client-sdk-6.5.0-4450180.zip, unzipped and followed the instructions in Getting_Started_with_HTML_Client_SDK_Fling.pdf.
I have installed Java 1.8.0, Ant 1.9.7, Adobe Flex 4.6.0, and Eclipse neon on a Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit machine with 16 GB RAM. I am trying to connect to a VCSA running on Linux.
When I try to start Virgo on the command line, I see the following exception:

How do I resolve this problem? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Need to Create Hybrid Cloud for moving VMs from on-premises to Cloud
i am new in vCloud. I want to create environment on already created VMware Virtual Infrastructure in which three hosts that is managing through vCenter. Now, i need to deploy Cloud services but i am confuse that we need to deploy vCloud director or vCC Server and vCC Nodes will be enough for creating required services.
Secondly, please update the difference between vCloud director and vCloud Connector?
Linux newbie - where I can find Shared folders?
Hi!
I'm user of Windows operating system. With Linux I have first experience on VMWare virtual machine.
I installed VMWare Tools and configured shared folders.
When I tried to find shared folders in Linux (64-bit Ubuntu) I was lost in large amount of folders. I found physical devices only CD-ROM and FDD.
I'm really newbie. So, really where to find in Ubuntu shard folders?
My VMWare is running on Windows 10.1607 Pro x64, shared folders are two partitions.
Here is also important Q: What a FS needs Ubuntu to work with? One partition is NTFS and 2nd is FAT16, I have no problem to reformat it also to FAT32...
I tested also OSX and it works with NTFS correctly what is behavior only virtual machine 'cause OSX can read only ExFAT in real computer.
Thank you for help.

Multiple Solaris 10 Networking Issues
Hello,
I've been trying to get networking in Solaris 10 working for the past few days. Inside the VM itself I installed VMWare Tools successfully and set up the necessary network settings in Solaris. However, the only network options that I'm given in the VM are e1000g0 and lo0, neither of which work. I then tried messing with the network adaptor settings, making it both shared and bridged, neither of which worked.
Whenever I try to edit the ethernet settings in the .VMX file, VMWare will either not boot Solaris with no error message, or it will delete ALL the settings and adaptors I had previously saved in the VM, saying the operating system is not found. I then have to reattach the sound card, hard drive, etc. I'm unable to set the ethernet to VMXNET3 or any form of e1000 because of this.
How should I go about setting up networking without having VMWare decide to delete everything?
I can provide more info if needed.
Thanks.
