Is Fusion 7 Pro supported on MacOS Sierra host?

$

I have an MacBook Pro (non-Retina, 13.3-inch, Late 2012) with 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 CPU and 16G memory. I'm going to upgrade to MacOS Sierra when it becomes publicly available.

If I upgrade to Sierra will Fusion 7 Pro continue to work on a Sierra host?

Force/Monitor Thin Provisioning

$

In our deployment, we have delegated a specific part of our vSphere 5.5 hierarchy to a subset of users with specific permissions. In this hierarchy, I would like to somehow force the usage of Thin Provisioning. My thinking so far is to implement a solution such as the following:

  1. Set a permission that allows the subset of users to only create Thin Provisioned disks on the set of datastores in question.
  2. Create an alarm that triggers when a Thick Provisioned disk is created so that administrators can deal with it (maybe make reference to Changing the thick or thin provisioning of a virtual disk (2014832) | VMware KB)
  3. As a last resort, create a script that searches for Thick Provisioned disks and converts them to Thin Provisioned via method described in KB2014832.

If anyone has a better idea, or perhaps a method of implementing one of the above (avoiding the scripting solution as much as possible), it would be greatly appreciated.

Heiko

NSX DFW - Traffic Dashboard

In LogInsight 3.6 with the NSX content pack at the Distributed Firewall - Traffic Dashboard.

My query is on vmw_nsx_firewall_ruleid = 1010 this rule is a deny rule in NSX. The only widget that populates is "Application ports denied". IP sources or destination IP addresses do not populate.

When looking at the query that drives "Top Firewall Destinations" it is filtering on vmw_nsx_firewall_action  contains pass. How do I get rid of the "Pass" in the widget on the dashboard so I can see all the data on the Dashboard correctly?

Load balanced setup

I'm working on setting up a new vRA 7 distributed environment, including load balanced orchestrator servers.  The main thing i'm not understanding yet is how do the load balanced servers stay in sync with the same workflows?  Is this just a manual step, each time I change a workflow..copy it to the secondary node?  Or is there a setting that would keep them synced up?

Win 10 - VMware Version 8.5.0 (4352717) on MacBook Pro Bad System Config Info Blue Screen

Ever since I upgraded VMWare Fusion, I am unable to maintain a Windows 10 machine on my Macbook Pro.  I've rebuilt the Windows 10 machine twice now and after a few days, I get the blue screen of death and I can not find a repair or way to safe boot the system.  I takes me a long time to rebuild my virtual machine, so this is not acceptable.  Please help . . .

I'm looking for a bcdedit solution hopefully, but anything other than starting over will help.  I don't have a restore point to boot from either.

Error handling help

$

Hi All,

I have an esxi postbuild script, all works well except when trying to add the syslog server, that doesn't always work as the DNS entries for some unknown arent always successful, if I run it manually after the script runs it succeeds, so to ensure the DNS entries are there I added some error handling in the add syslog section which catches the error and then runs the set-dns function, this works except the script ends there and doesn't go on to re-attempt adding the syslog server.  How can I achieve this? below is the syslog and set-dns excerpts.

#########################

#Set DNS

#########################

function set-dns{

begin{

write-host -ForegroundColor GREEN "Adding DNS Entries $dns1,$dns2 on vmHost $esxi"

}

Process{

Get-VMHost $esx | Get-VMHostNetwork | Set-VMHostNetwork -DnsAddress $dns1,$dns2 -Confirm:$false

}

}

set-dns

#

######################

#Set syslog

######################

Write-Host -ForegroundColor GREEN "Set Syslog"

Try{

Set-VMHostSyslogserver -SysLogServer $syslog -SysLogServerPort 514 -VMHost $esx -ErrorAction Stop

}

Catch

{

$errormessage = $_.Exception.Message

$FailedItem = $_.Exception.ItemName

Write-Host "DNS  $errormessage $FailedItem"

set-dns

}

How to make mouse buttons follow host

$
0
0

Its seems that vmware guest hardware for the mouse now uses hardware clicks. So in the host control panel swapping mouse buttons has no effect on the guest.

This is a real pain - in a previous version of vmware it used to work correctly.

Running windows .. sometimes I use a mouse with normal buttons, other times the buttons are swapped (left handed).

A few versions back of Workstation it used to be that the guest would copy the mouse button settings for the host.

Swap left/right buttons etc. Now it seems that for each guest I have to change the settings individually.

Is there a way to make the guest follow the host settings?

Can I make vmware guest hardware use the host control panel status for the mouse?

Thanks,

Michael

Cluster to Cluster vMotion Fails

$

I'm in the process of migrating 1000+ virtual machines from an old cluster to a new one.

I'm able to migrate VMs between the two clusters, but only by specifying the exact destination host's name. If I select the destination cluster (rather than a specific host), the migration fails with the error "DRS cannot find a host to power on or migrate the virtual machine". Anyone know why this is happening?

As a matter of management, I want to be able to migrate machines to the cluster itself (rather than have to choose a specific host within the cluster).

The source and destination clusters each have their own vDS, each with 128 ports on their vMotion port groups. The source and destination clusters' DRS level are set to fully automated. My vCenter version is 6.0.0 (build 3339083). The hosts in both clusters are all running ESXi version 6.0.0 (build 3568940).

Dear all,

I have just installed a ESXi 6.0 build 3620759 and I'm having some problems for example the VCSA (always version 6) lost connectivty very often with Hypervisor etc... Did you know if there are some updates that I have to install in order to solve some bugs?

I have already verified the VCC patch and are ok.

Thanks in advance ,

Hello,

What happened was my AD password changed so I reset it and marked it not to change.

But after that I have seen service issues with IAAS.

I marked all IAAS services to use local logon.

When i run a workflow it executes all NSX bits fine but when it comes to deploying the vms themselves it just pauses.

Log showed the below pic that managerservice.exe cannot start. What is going on and how do i fix this please advise.

After updating a mixture of G7, G8 and G9 VMHosts to 5.5 update 3a and Cookbook release September 2015 (SPP JUN 15). I started having host errors specifically on my G7 hardware. One host went so far as to disconnect from VCenter.

I went the full boat update on the OS to bring it fully in line with HP's recipe. This was the first time hitting drivers in quite a while. So when the first errors started coming in, I immediately suspected the HPSA v106 ( Version:5.5.0.106-1OEM ) which was updated from v50 ( Version:5.5.0.50-1OEM)

I opened tickets with both HP and VMWare

VMWare came back with the first fix which was to upgrade the hpsa driver(hpsa 5.5.0.114-1OEM) which can be downloaded from https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=DT-ESXI55-HP-HPSA-550114-1OEM&productId=353. however overnight , the errors returned.

HP has suggested back-revving to 5.5.0.74-1(1 Oct 2014) but from a previous discussion here [ Datastore / Disk latency problems with HP ProLiant DL380 G7 - HP Smart Array P410i controller after SPP 2014.09.0 / hpsa-5.0.0.74 update   ]  I believe that was also a bad version.

I'm going to wander down the road a bit and see where it leads and if necessary go back to the 70 or even 50 release

I have registered the vRB for cloud (7.1) to vRA 7.1. Permission has been assigned to view the Business Management Tab (Business Management Administrator).

When I click on the Business Management tab, it keeps loading. Also, if I click on Administration >  Business Management, it keeps loading too.

I have done the followings:

1. Update the Time Settings - All servers time are in sync (Less than 10 secs difference)

2. Restart all servers

3. Re-register the vRA in vRB Appliance

4. Clear browser cache

However, it is still not loading at all.

vRealize Generate CSV File Error

Using the vRealize 7.0.1 Bulk Imports to Generate CSV file, I get the error "An error occurred while creating export: Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

I have tried various settings and discovered that if I disable the reservations associated to the business group selected in the Generate CSV File form I can get a CSV file to export, looking at the error I suspect I have an issue with the data in the IaaS SQL database.

I have looked through a number of logs on the IaaS server but cant see any errors related to this also the Compute Resource Data Collections are working without any issues.

Hat jemand hier Ideen oder Erfahrungen gemacht?

Horizon 7 w/ Persona Syncing

Hello all,

I am trying to get Persona set up so that My Documents, Desktop, AppData, etc. are synced using Persona.  I have the following GPO's set up...

Manager user persona - Enabled

Persona repository location - Enabled

Filed and folders excluded from roaming - Enabled

I can see that these folders are being created and followed in the user profile on the share, but when logging onto a different machine in that same pool it does not pull anything saved in that persona profile.

For instance, I created a file in My Documents called Test.txt on Machine A.  When I log off and browse to the persona user profile, I see MY DOCUMENTS\Test.txt.  When I log on to Machine B, I can't see Test.txt in My Documents.  What am I missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Frank

CPU disable on booting Ubuntu 16.10

$

After installation of Ubuntu 16.10 x64, I get the "CPU has been disabled by the guest OS" during the boot sequence.  Happened with the beta, too.  Same guest OS works just fine with Hyper-V.  16.04 installs and boots correctly.  Using Workstation 12.5.  There's some kind of kernel panic happening, but I can't capture it.  syslog and kern.log are empty in the /var/log/ path when I drop to a terminal from recovery mode.

Anyone else having this problem?
