VMWare Workstation on Windows 10 Gives Credential Guard warning even though it is not installed/enabled

$

I've upgraded my host to Windows 10 (1607) on an older home built machine/mb with MBR (non-UEFI) boot.

Now, when I try to run my Ubuntu VM, I get a warning from vmWare Workstation 12 Player (12.5.0 build-4352439) that "VMware Player and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible."

I follow the help link to http://www.vmware.com/go/turnoff_CG_DG for more details.

For step 1, I disable the local security policy according to the instructions.

For step 2, in "Turn Window Features on or off" V-Host is NOT enabled or installed.

For step 4, since this is an MBR partition, there is NO GPT, so no EFI partition to mount and those commands fail.

I restart to see if changing the policy (at least) solves the problem, attempt to launch my uBuntu guest and receive the same warning.

So now what?

Short of upgrading my mobo to UEFI is there anything I can do short term?

ThinApp Licensing for those who started with 4.x

$

Hello

I posted about a problem recently regarding a package we made in 4.7.  Since then I have attempted to re-do this in various versions of 5.x, but I cannot get the packager licensed.  In the 4.x series (if I remember this properly) you licensed the packager, and then licensed the users separately.  We still maintain users, so as 5 was released we made sure we were licensed.  However it looks like we never licensed the packager.  I say that because the license codes we have in our VMware account come back as invalid when I try and use them to install 5 (any version I have tried in 5 thus far).

So I think we do not have the license for the packager anymore - but we are having a hard time explaining this to our VAR.  Our VAR says the product just doesn't exist - so what are we missing?  was there some branding change or terminology change that I missed out on?  How does one license the packager now?  It looks to me like ThinApp still exists .. this site says it can still be licensed stand alone .. ThinApp Agentless Application Virtualization: VMware

UPDATE: To clarify what I am asking - How do you license the version 5 packager?  the license code for the ThinApp 5 Client does not appear to work, and has our VAR stumped.  Our VAR says there is no such thing as a ThinApp 5 packager license... As posted in one of the replies below we do have 300 ThinApp 5 client licenses, and that is the code I used to get this error:

Dear Support,

We are facing issue while upgrading VCenter from 5.5.to 6.0 update 2. We were getting below error during the upgrade.

Vmware Virtual center failed firstboot.

An error occurred while starting service VPXD.

We have tried with below solution but till not we were not able to resolve our issue

http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-60/index.jsp#com.vmware.vsphere.upgrade.doc/GUID-FB666E0C-6171-4EA5-8B39-5E261E74F194.html

We have already open the case with VMware regarding the same but till now no luck.

Appreciate your quick response for the same.

Reconfiguring an Item to add a second NIC on the same external network as an existing NIC

$

Hi there,

We have a simple IaaS Blueprint that provisions a VM with a single NIC, the network to provision to is specified using the VirtualMachine.Network0.Name property.  External Network Profiles are then used to control IP address allocation.

We now have a user requirement for a specific application to have a second NIC on that same network. If I attempt to reconfigure the provisioned VM to add a second NICon the same network as the first I get the error "You chose a name that is already in use. Chose a unique name".

vRA is 7.01

The question - is there a way to achieve this so that the additional NIC can be added through vRA and the correct IP address added from the pool?

Thanks,

Hello,

i want to replace the preinstalled vcenter certificates against ones which are signed from our internal CA.

I used this kb article to get the csr:

SslHandshakeFailed when trying to unregister Inventory Service from SSO

$

Hello,

I have recently been trying to configure vCenter Server Appliance 5.1, and I have been following the instructions in "Configuring certificates signed by a Certificate Authority (CA) for vCenter Server Appliance 5.1"  The link to it is below:

Configuring certificates signed by a Certificate Authority (CA) for vCenter Server Appliance 5.1 (2036744) | VMware KB

I got to Step 16 under "Installation and configuration of the certificates".  When I attempt to run the command to unregister the Inventory Service from the SSO, I get the following output:

vcenter:/etc/VMware-sso/register-hooks.d #   ./02-inventoryservice --mode uninstall --ls-server https://server.domain.com/lookupservice/sdk

Initializing registration provider ...

Getting SSL certificates for https://server.domain.com:7444/lookupservice/sdk

com.vmware.vim.vmomi.core.exception.CertificateValidationException: Server Certificate assertion not verified and thumbprint not matched

Return code is: SslHandshakeFailed

"server.domain.com" is replaced with the VCSA's IP Address in the command when I type it.

The VCSA is running in an offline network of servers, where the VCSA is initialized as a virtual machine.

Are there any thoughts on what the cause of this issue is, and how to fix it?  Please let me know if you need more information.

Host stability Issues with nvidia drivers

$

We have been having issues with the hosts where the nvidia card are installed where the hostd process crashes and disconnects the host from vCenter until it restarts the process again and we had two servers with the purple screen of dead and both times seems to have been related to nvidia processes.

We have two clusters one has four hosts with the nvidia vSGA driver and the other cluster has 3 hosts with the vGPU driver.

On the vSGA cluster we set the pool setting to be automatic that way if hardware GPU resources are not available it can fail back to software. But it seems that if the host gets under load 65 to 75% CPU utilization it becomes unstable to the point where processes like hostd start crashing thus causing it to become unavailable on vCenter... then everything is in chaos mode since view starts complaining and trying to perform operations on the disconnected host.

This happening with vGPU and vSGA on vSphere 6.0. The only way to alleviate the issue so far has been to set some of the pools from graphics acceleration from automatic to disabled on vSGA pools, and Stop using vGPU on the vGPU enabled cluster.

VMware so far tells us that every time there is a crash is related to an NVidia process causing errors.

But it seems getting support for this issue is an uphill one since it seems not many techs on VMware are familiar with NVIDIA.

tdnf コマンド(yum のかわり) で、RPM を最新化しておきます。
RPM のアップグレードが終わったら、いったん OS を再起動します。

root@photon-ALW4IArOR [ ~ ]# tdnf upgrade -y

root@photon-ALW4IArOR [ ~ ]# reboot

PowerShell の Yum リポジトリの設定ファイル(.repo)を配置します。

下記のようなコマンドラインを投入して、 /etc/yum.repos.d/powershell.repo ファイルを作成します。

cat << EOF > /etc/yum.repos.d/powershell.repo

[powershell]

name=PowerShell (x86_64)

baseurl=https://vmware.bintray.com/powershell

gpgcheck=0

7.1 and bulk import blueprints.

I must be missing something here since the documentation just completely glosses over the creation of a blueprint for bulk imports.

I can make an empty blueprint, publish and assign rights to it. It's visible in the catalog, but the drop down in the bulk import wizard when specifying the blueprint is always empty.

Any clues, hints, or a how-to?

Cant See Host Name ("Unknown")

When looking at the virtual machines in a Folder (in the VMs and Templates view), I have users that cant see the hosts to which the virtual machines belong to. They see "Unknown" rather than the host name. The users experiencing this belong to the Virtual Machine User role. This role is perfect for them with the exception of not being able to see the host names. What can I change to enable them to see the host names? I tried googling for this to no avail.

Has anyone been able to get the Horizon View Client (VMware-Horizon-Client-3.5.0-2999900.x64.bundle) to successfully run on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS x64?

I was able to get the all to install fine after linking the to with the command. The SCAN all comes back successful. The app opens fine. I am able to connect to View Server. I am also able to see the VDI. But when I try to connect to it, I get kicked out and see this message in the terminal window.

Use of newer versions of Eclipse for plugin development

I am getting back to plugin development (this time on a mac) after having been off on other projects.

I setup my development environment with Eclipse 4.2 (Juno) like I did before, seems like that (or 4.3) were what the instrucitons supported.  I was wondering if newer versions of Eclipse like 4.6 (Neon) are supported?  If anybody has managed to get the dev enviornment (with virgo and all) working with the newer versions, could they post or point to some instructions on how to do it?  If it has not been done, what are the factors that prevent supporting the development environment in more recent versions of Eclipse?

Thanks for any information.
