ESXi 6.7 System Swap "Host Cache" vs "Local swap" vs "Datastore".
Hi, I can't seem to find an article which explain the difference between them, when to use them, impact... or one of them is already deprecated.
The setting appear in the webclient, Host | Manage | System | Swap | Enabled, Datastore, Host Cache & Local Swap. Current at default setting, Yes, No, Yes, Yes)
Got a ESXi 6.7 lab PC (128GB RAM, 2x Nvme, 2 x Sata SSD & 1 x HDD) which I run nested ESXi hosts (like VSAN lab). just curious what those settings are, though I think with the configuration of mainly flash setup, the setting make no difference. The hard disk is hardly used.. just to backup iso files.
Thanks.
[iOS] IPad & Merge with VMware vSphere Client for iPad
Hello Everybody,
I was waiting for a long time to see a mobile solution for vSphere Client.
This new App is perfect but it could be even better with a few ideas :
- A real iPad version
- A view per host Host as in vSphere Client for iPad
- Performance information per host (CPU / Memory / HD)
In one word, will it be merged with vSphere Client for iPad ?

Automate Datastore creation with grep, awk, or sed
I am updating my post kickstart to layout my ESX datastore. This is for my lab environment where I wipe and drop often. I got all of my drives type and label in a simple array
PHYSICAL_DRIVES="SATA_SSD-SSD_VM Samsung-SSD_VSAN HITACHI-SSD_HDD"
What is the proper syntax or tool (grep, sed, or awk) to read in for example "SATA_SSD-SSD_VM" as $input and break it up into two variable where the market is "-"
So $type = would be "SATA" or all character from the start of $input up to the character "-"
and $label = would be "SSD_VM" or all the character after "-" to the end of the $input string
And feedback would be appreciated. Thank you in advance
ESXI 7.0u1 no disk present to install
Hi, please help me!
ESXI 7.0u1 no disk present to install flex system x240 (ibm blade system mt8721hc1)
Fusion and Citrix performance terrible (as in not even able to reboot VM)
Fusion Version 11.1.0 (13668589)
MBP2018 15 inch (discrete Gfx)
macOS Mojave 10.14.6
VM: is Win10 64bit Pro
6 cores, 6GB
Using remote desktop via Citrix, to a company Win10 machine
If Settings -> Accelerate 3D graphics is selected in VMWare Fusion then the remote desktop session in VMWare Fusion is UNUSABLE
It beachballs so hard that I cannot even send reboot or shutdown, I have to go back to Activity Monitor and kill vmware process
If Settings -> Accelerate 3D graphics is disabled then the remote desktop can be used, but still uses ENORMOUS amounts of CPU resources.
Any plans to fix this? I need the 3D Graphics acceleration for other (non-RDP) applications, so right now VMware Fusion is useless for me.
ovftool v4.4 failing on extra config even when passing --allowExtraConfig
After upgrading to ovftool v4.4, ovftool started breaking on a specific ExtraConfig parameter. It seems to be working correctly with all other ExtraConfigs, but adding a specific entry is causing it to break.
With a standard set of ExtraConfig parameters specified in envoy-proxy-bae.ovf. Conversion to OVA goes through perfectly.
<vmw:ExtraConfig ovf:required="true" vmw:key="guest.command.enabled" vmw:value="false"/>
```
ubuntu@cdm-node:~$ ovftool --allowAllExtraConfig envoy-proxy-base.ovf test.ova
Opening OVF source: envoy-proxy-base.ovf
The manifest validates
Opening OVA target: test.ova
Writing OVA package: test.ova
Transfer Completed
Warning:
- Wrong file size specified in OVF descriptor for 'envoy-proxy-base-1.vmdk' (specified: -1, actual 910012416).
Completed successfully
```
However, when we add the following entry to the list of ExtraConfigs, ovftool fails.
<vmw:ExtraConfig ovf:required="true" vmw:key="sched.mem.pin" vmw:value="true"/>
```
ubuntu@cdm-node:~$ ovftool --allowExtraConfig envoy-proxy-base.ovf test.ova
Opening OVF source: envoy-proxy-base.ovf
The manifest validates
Error: OVF Package is not supported by target:
- Line -1: Unsupported value 'sched.mem.pin' for attribute 'key' on element 'ExtraConfig'.
Completed with errors
```
Why is this specific ExtraConfig breaking ovftool? Is there something different about the naming that is causing the issue? Why do we only see this issue when this specific ExtraConfig is added to the ovf?
How to downgrade license from 7.0 to 6.5?
Hi,
I was having issues with 6.5 and rather than reinstalling, I stupidly upgraded to 7.0, which doesn't see much of the server's hardware, including the drive it's installed on as a datastore, even though under 6.5 it did. My fault, I know. I have now downloaded 6.5 and reinstalled it over 7.0 and it sees the hardware and datastore... but for some reason, I can't even see the 7.0 license, which I'm sure doesn't work for 6.5 anyway,.. but if doing the upgrade changed the license key to 7... how do I downgrade it to 6.5? And if I don't need to downgrade it, but use my previous 6.5 license... how do I even get that back since when I click on anything that should point to my licenses the site just gives me an error and says that page isn't available.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Issue with In app Tunnel configuration
Hi all,
So I am testing out in app vpn on WS1. I created the UAG and is all setup as it should. Tunnel is installed on my android device and show green and "Connected"
Now my issue is here.. I have a policy which pushes the web app onto my device which has the vpn creds binded to it it so it connect directly to the UAG and eventually access the internal app required. This is not happening for some reason. When I looked at the tunnel logs I get the following:
Tunnel Session connected
Tunnel DNS servers: 127.0.0.53
Tunnel Session successfully established.
Now on my UAG i have my proper DNS settings configured so the question is: Is the 127.0.0.53 not allowing me to access my internal apps?
Also I went to the path where the 1270.0.53 is and I changed it but after a reboot it goes back to default. What am I doing wrong here?
Any help and guidance would be appreciated!
Citrix Viewer incompatible with "Accelerate 3D Graphics" option
Enabling "Accelerated 3D Graphics" in Fusion will render Citrix Viewer inside a Windows VM completely unusable. This is a long standing issue:
Disabling "Accelerate 3D Graphics" has obviously some CPU side effects, which not everyone can live with.
I am not clear on whether it's a Citrix or a VMware issue to be honest.
Shared VM gone in workstation 16!
After installing version 16, I realized that the Shared-VM feature was removed and there is no "hostd" service on Linux but in windows "hostd" exist but there is not any section for configuration in GUI or CLI!
this a bug or completely removed!?
Content Gateway - No files from DFS shares - Admin Repository
Share is \\company.corp\folder\destination\ all exists on DFS, used to work fine a couple of years back on the old windows version.
Deployed UAG 3.8 and when trying to access the repository from the Content app we just get "There are no files to view" we have tried different users and different shares and see the same result. When testing it in the admin console you get "Connection Succeeded". No errors in the logs that I can see either. I am a bit stuck now.
i am sure I have seen this before but cannot remember how we got past it.
Thoughts?
Copy-VMGuestFile gives errors with new VMware Tools
Hi,
Our VMops team who deploys new VMs has some scripting in place that after deployment of the VM, copies some files into the VM.
They now run in to an error when doing a CopyVMGuestFile to a Windows 2019 VM with VMware Tools 11.0.5. Strangely enough other combinations DO work:
- Win 2012 / Win 2016 with VMware Tools 11.0.5 = WORKS
- Win 2012 / Win 2016 with VMware Tools 10.5 = WORKS
- Win 2019 with VMware Tools 10.5 = WORKS
- Win 2019 with VMware Tools 11.0.5 = DOESN'T WORK
The command they run:
Get-Item $SupportingFilesPath\* | Copy-VMGuestFile -Destination "C:\Temp\" -vm $VM_Deploy.DEP_VmName -localtoguest -GuestUser $Cred_LocalAdmin.UserName -GuestPassword $Cred_LocalAdmin.Password
The error:
Warning after command:

Many hosting providers offer ‘Unlimited Bandwidth’, but it often ends with some certain terms and conditions as per company standard. Hosting Bandwidth means the amount of traffic can handle the website. So make sure that, go through the terms and conditions of the hosting provider.
I hope this information is beneficial to know what web hosting and how to find the best web hosting provider.
You also get better security when you get your own hosting plan. Cheap Shared Hosting, Dedicated Hosting, and cheap VPS Hosting Reviews and Coupon Codes - https://www.waikey.com/
Shared hosting is the most suitable option for beginners, small websites like personal blogs, simple websites as well as it is the most elementary form of web hosting available. VPS Hosting can be chosen when a client website starts growing (attracts bigger traffic). A virtual private-service mimics a dedicated server (your web host allocates a separate partition for you on the server) but within a shared hosting environment.
PowerCLi script to Upload files into datastores for multiple hosts in parallel
Hello Friends,
Recently i've got a scenario where i have to upload the files into multiple hosts in their local datastores around 2000+ boxes. I'm trying below scripts to upload the files to selected 50 hosts in parallel. but somehow script is not running as per our expectation. Any help would be highly appreciated here.

Get-hvlocalsession for multiple users
Hi guys,
I am trying to make a script which should give session details of multiple users such as username,login time and logout time.
I could get the required details for all the users by below script. But dont know how to get it for multiple users. ie by importing limited no of usernames in a text file.
Get-hvlocalsession | ForEach-Object -Process {
$dtformat = "dd-mm-yy HH:mm"
$ls = $_
'' | select @{N="Emp Id";E={$ls.NamesData.UserName.Replace("Domainname\","")}},
@{N="Login Time";E={$ls.sessiondata.StartTime.ToString($dtformat)}},
@{N="Logoff Time";E={$ls.sessiondata.DisconnectTime.ToString($dtformat)}}
}
Any help?
