LUN does not show correct size after extend

Hi,

we are running cluster of 4 hosts, connected via FC to Lenovo Storage V3700 V2. We extended one of the LUNs from 16 to 20TB, but vCenter still shows 16TB size. When we go to a host - configure - storage devices, the correct size is shown (20TB), but Datastores shows 16TB. We found this article VMware Knowledge Base and upgraded the hosts to " 6.5.0, 15256549" (they were ESXi 6.5. Patch 01, build 5146846), but nothing changed. The current version of vSphere web client is "Version 6.5.0.32000 Build 15259038".

Anyone having same or similar issue?

Thanks in advance.

vSphere 7, unable to stop syslog service.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I was trying to stop syslog from the vCenter GUI and the ESXi GUI but I am getting the following error,  I am able to stop / start the NTP service just fine, so it really appears to be related to the syslog service.

this occurs on all my hosts running vCenter / ESXi 7.

vCenter7.0.1 Build:16858589

I sshed to the host and checked the service...

iSCSI and vSAN sharing same physical interfaces - 25Gbit

$

Hello all,

I will have to share the same physical nics between vSAN and iSCSI.

On my infrastructure, vSAN is using vmic0 as active and vmnic1 as standby.

I need to configure iSCSI to connect to a storage system and  I will need to use the same physical interfaces. The target (4 ip addresses) and the initiators will be on the same network.

My question is how can I configure the iSCSI to grant that vSAN and iSCSI aren't using the same interface?

Option 1:

- add only one vmkernel to iSCSI and put vmnic0 on standby and vmnic 1 as active (because on vSAN vmkernel I have vmic0 active and vmnic1 standby). Can I use this configuration?  will I have redundancy?

Option 2:

- if  I create  two vmkernels:

vmkernel- iSCSI1 with vmnic0 active and vmnic1 unused and vmkernel- iSCSI2 with vmnic0 unused and vmnic1 active, one of the vmkernel's will be using at the same time, the same nic as the vSAN, right?

What should i do?

Thanks.

NSX-T 3.0 - 100 VRF Lite per T0

Hello all,

After 100 VRF's per T0, it will be need to create other T0 to had more VRF's. With that, for the 2nd T0 I will need to deploy other pair of edge nodes to create other cluster.

My question is:

- For that 2nd T0, can I use the same segments that connect the 1st T0 to ToR A and ToR B, or should I create new segments on other vlan's for that?

Thanks.

Addin multiple disks on diffrent SCSI controllers via PowerCLI script

I am trying to create a Powercli script for adding additional disks to Sql vms. Scripts runs fine but the disks labels wont create evenly across multiple scsi controllers.

Ideally this is what I am trying to get.

Hard disk 1  on SCSI 0:1
Hard disk 2  on SCSI 0:2
Hard disk 3  on SCSI 1:1
Hard disk 4  on SCSI 1:2
Hard disk 5  on SCSI 2:1
Hard disk 6  on SCSI 2:2
Hard disk 7  on SCSI 3:1
Hard disk 8  on SCSI 3:2

Hard disk 9  on SCSI 3:3

But this is what I get.

Hard disk 7  on SCSI 0:1
Hard disk 2  on SCSI 0:2
Hard disk 8  on SCSI 1:1
Hard disk 6  on SCSI 1:2
Hard disk 9  on SCSI 2:1
Hard disk 4  on SCSI 2:2
Hard disk 10  on SCSI 3:1
Hard disk 5  on SCSI 3:2

Hard disk 3  on SCSI 3:3

Hello,

I just patched our vRA 7.6 to 7.6 Patch 15, not our custom forms are no longer working. It looks like the simple function - visible on condition (e.g. integer > x) is no longer working.

Has anyone had similar issue?

Gonna roll back the snapshots now..

macOS - Certificate Based Authentication - App Level or OS Level?

$
0
0

Hello,

We're currently working on revamping our macOS design.

While working on it came of course the question of proxies and specifically the authentication onto them.  We have several possibilities for that but it comes along to answer to the following question :

Is it the OS on the Mac that deals with the Certificate Based Authentication aspect or is it each installed app individually ?

If it is the latter, for apps like Safari, we're pretty confident this will work properly because of Safari knowing how to handle certificates.

Regarding 3rd party apps, (Bluejean, Adobe Suite...), this is not so sure these would be able to exploit the certificates present in the keychain. Hence the question about CBA being handled by macOS itself or by every single app individually.

If anyone knows, that'd be good to know.

Thanks,

Anton

HA Failover if a Uplink fails

$

Dear community

The environment:

- vCenter 6.7

- two ESXi 6.7 in a HA Cluster

- Network connectivity:

  • Host1 (one Uplink)<-> Switch1 <-> Destination
  • Host2 (one Uplink)<-> Switch2 <-> Destination

- Two VMs

- All VMs are placed on Host1

Goal: if Switch1 or the Uplink of Host1 to Switch1 fails, failover of all VMs would be happened to Host2 to restore the connectivity.

How can it be done? With HA or Fault Tolerance?

Thank you.

How can I Detach my Linux's host interface card enps02 to my VM

$

Hello Community,

Greetings to the Community, Veterans and Noobs of VMware. Please kindly help look into this major issue I'm having.

I have a Linux (Ubuntu) machine running a VMware Workstation Pro (trial version). I'm running a firewall device in this VM. I want the VM itself to use a dedicated enps02(/eth0) from my host so that I can configure it (the enps02 interface) as the gateway interface for my Firewall. This is desired to allow internet on the host ONLY through my firewall. Thanks, I sincerely hope for a resolution/idea.

join 2 private networks together into single network between two VMW hosts

Hello guys, I have the following:

1 Host OS: I run there 'Main VM' without internet and 'VPN VM' which seeds (ICS) its VPN connection to the 'Main VM' via vmnet5 adapter (Host-only network, Connect a host is unchecked).

2 Host OS: 'Main VM-2' without internet connection. I would like to join into vmnet5, which is managed by VMW on 1st Host.

Both VMV hosts connected into the same wifi network.

Could anyone suggest the most convenient approach? I imagine the solution could be pretty damn easy, but it could be also running a dedicated VM to create bridge, use local VPN, use direct ethernet cable or 2 wifi adapters to create private link. I know only the headlines of these methods but haven't tried anything. Please advise.

ESXI 6.5 GPU Passthrough Quadro Host Rebooting

$

Hi All,

We are trying to get lab environment to test GPU Roughcast to VM's working before going live.

I have built a HP DL380 G8 server which is fully up to date with bios patches/firmware etc. I have installed ESXI 6.5.0 as the host OS and under this we have a Windows VM running windows 10 fully up to date inc anniversary update.

I have created a pass-through for the Nvidia Quadro K2200 graphics card installed on the server and all is working fine from a VM point of view it sees the card all drives installed and works perfectly for our use.

The issue I have is if the VM runs for a few days and then we reboot (long term plan is scheduled reboots at night). The host goes into a complete panic and reboot's itself before the VM has even had a chance to shutdown obviously something is not right with the config.

I have done lots of research and have tried playing with various settings etc to try and make it stable for reboots but cannot seem to make it work. I have tried 6 initially and then went to 6.5 off the back of a forum post regarding instability on v6 which I did see during setup not just at reboot stage however 6.5 seems much better other than reboot.

Really after any advice from anyone which has tried to do the same on things for me to check.

Log files are not really giving me much around the reboot time it's like it simply stops dead.

I have passed the audio device through to the VM however on 6.5 it looks like you have to do this as it is a dependent (which was different from 6.0).

we are looking to try and use this in production come January next year so would love to iron out the kinks before we shell out for a live system as I cannot have it rebooting like this when live.

few forum posts suggest going back to 5.5 with the latest updates as this became alot more stable and win 10 is still supported as an OS.

I am willing to send log files etc to try and help solve the problem.

thanks

Problem with VDI Pool

Hello,

we have a weird problem with one of our VDI Pool's spreading from a week now 5 machines affected form 29.

We have this Popup with a flashing screen (error2 attachment) using some guides here we've managed to "fix" the flashing screen by stopping the "Windows Error Reporting Service".

But after that, we have this message popping up (error attachment)

Does anyone had a similar problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Please tell me how to research about contents of error log.

I confirmed error log by vSphere.

But there are many logs which aren’t applicable to Google Web Search and VMware Knowledge Base.

So I can't identify the reason of error.

Is there the way to search it without inquiry to support.

Get VMXNET3 - Network DirectPath I/O Status

Hello Community, is there a way via script to get all VMs that have DirectPath I/O enabled?

2 hosts, 1 v-center + Veeam B&R

Hi community,

I currently purchased a 2nd Dell server and have installed Esxi 6.7 on it and soon am planning to install v-center appliance 6.7 as well.

We currently have essentials kit license and one existing Dell server esxi host (6.5) running a few VMs.

I would like some input on the community experience on the best way to set things up so that if one VM fails on my existing host, I will be able to quickly migrate to the 2nd host.

I understand I do not have v-motion with the v-sphere essentials kit, so looking to leverage my existing Veeam B&R platform to help with redundancy and possibly restore VMs to a new location? if that is possible.

Existing dell server host networking is setup like this

- Management Network - vswitch0 - vmnic0 (physical) - 1 gig port (VLAN- 100)

- Production Network - vswitch1 -   vmnic1& vnmic2 (physical) - 1 Gig ports (VLAN-1)

-- 2 x SSDs + 6 x HDDs (two datastores)

New dell server host networking not yet setup but it has these physical ports that i could use in any fashion.

vmnic0 - 10 gig (teaming)---> thinking of assigning to Prod Network and put on VLAN 1

vmnic1 - 10 gig (teaming)

vnmnic2 - 1 gig (thinking of using this for Mgmt and put on the same MGMT VLAN 100 as my 1st host)

-- 2 x SSDs + 6 x HDDs (two datastores)

Question

1. Am i able to achieve some sort of decent redundancy with the above hosts + licenses/budget?

2. Does it make sense to install v-center appliance on the new Dell server, add both hosts? and manage them from the v-center console?

3. Should i update my 1st host to 6.7 first? before adding to the v-center?

4.. will the difference in NIC speeds on both hosts impact anything? in terms of relocating VMs from one host to the other?

5. any other words of wisdom would be appreciated

thx

iSCSI and backup's traffic on the same switch

Hello all,

I will have a storage system connected via iSCSI and it will be used only for backup's repository. The iSCSI and backup network will be the same (VLANx). I will have 2 x10Gbit pnics.

For iSCSI, i will have iscsi-vmkernel1 assign to vmnic1 and iscsi-vmkernel2 assign to vmnic2, with port binding.

My questions are:

1 - for the backup traffic, on the iscsi/backups distributed switch (by the way, should i use standard or distributed?), i will have to create a port group tagged as VLANx, used for backup traffic and a 3rd vmkernel on each host, for that type of traffic, right?

2 - For iscsi traffic i will have a one to one relation, but beside that, for the port group (VLANx), for backup's, i will have the two uplinks active on the teaming and failover options, right?

Thanks.

Regards.
