One VM fails to vMotion, other VMs vMotion just fine

$

I need to put a host into maintenance mode in my ESXi 6.7 U3 cluster. All the VMs migrated off of it just fine...except one, which consistently hangs at 21% and then fails.

The error stack in the task says:

  • vMotion migration [169412107:6390396849079088667] failed writing stream completion: Timeout.
  • Migration to host <10.25.6.18> failed with error Timeout (195887137).
  • vMotion migration [169412107:6390396849079088667] (16-77102179162616) failed to receive 4940/4940 bytes from the remote host <10.25.6.11>: Timeout.
  • Failed waiting for data. Error 195887137. Timeout.

And the reason in the relevant event is:

  • The virtual machine did not migrate. This condition can occur if vMotion IPs are not configured, the source and destination hosts are not accessible, and so on. Action: Check the reason in the event message to find the cause of the failure. Ensure that the vMotion IPs are configured on source and destination hosts, the hosts are accessible, and so on.

However, this is red herring because, as I said, all the other VMs were able to vMotion without issue.

Looking at the hardware, the only thing unusual I see is that it uses IDE disks, not virtual SCSI, but that shouldn't prevent vMotion, should it?

Any ideas how I can troubleshoot this? Unfortunately, I'm finding nothing useful online from that error stack info because all the advice pertains to when vMotion as a whole doesn't work on a host, which isn't relevant here.

Visual Studio 2019 - Cannot check for updated license

I am getting an error when trying to use Visual Studio 2019 community version on our VM/appstacks.

I am able to run VS2019 on our physical machines without having this issue.  This is after a fresh install.

Windows 10 x64 1909

View agent 7.12 & vcenter 7

Appvol agent 2.18.4

I did use the VMware OSOT which disabled NCSI.  I re-enabled that and set the reg keys in HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetworkConnectivityStatusIndicator back to 0.  I thought maybe the issue with Windows thinking it had no internet access was the issue but even with the taskbar icon showing Connect & Internet Access now I still get the same error when trying to update the visual studio license.

I can sign in fine and it recognizes my account, but trying to "update license" always results in the same error "We could download a license, check internet connection and proxy settings"

Has anyone else had this or similar issue?  Is there some other network setting I may need to re-enabled that was turned off using the OSOT?

I have not tried to install it on a fresh plain base image yet but that will be next on the list for tomorrow.

4.1 - assigning 2 diff Pckg's to One Application ?

$

Apologies for the newb question .

We are on 2.18 atm.

We are moving from LTSB/C to Enterprise - thus we are recreating every Layer / appstack in 4.1 .

In order to consolidate and limit # of attached drives we have AppStacks that combine multiple programs into one Layer .

For example .

an "Everyone" appstack... this has 4 apps.. Chrome - PDF xchange - financial app etc.

EVeryone in the Co gets this .. hence the name .

Now to bring that to 4.x .

My question is :

Can i not HAve One Application called EVeryone .. and assign Different Multiple PAckages to said Application ?

Using 'Current' doesnt work..as it appears to me i can only have one Current PAckage in an Application ( which MAKES SENSE of course ) .

I tried 'Assignment Type 'Package'... that Assigns our AD group for this to just ONE package .

I want one Application to dish out 4 Different PAckages .. ( e.g. Chrome / PDF software ..etc. ) .

Is there no way to do that ?

Also the question is would anyone WANT to do that ?...

In 2.18 we created one Appstack and installed 4 items in that one app stack .

Appears in 4.x we might have to create One Application.. One Package.. and install all 4 apps in said package ?

I presume EAch Package appears to be a separate VMDK..

Thus could one say you could never Have Two Packages in an Application assigned at the same time ?

Sorry for the newb questions .

thanks much .

Hi friends,

I've got a small problem.

When ever users that are signed in via Horizon to my Windows Terminal Server their desktop icons are being reset. After they sign out and back-in.

Auto arrange icons is off.

I am pretty sure it has something to do with resolution changing.

Anyone got an idea?

Thanks in Advance!

A custom scale factor is set in Display

Horizon 7.11 - Windows 10 1909 - Linked Clone Pool

One of our applications on our Horizon desktops is being cut off from viewing it fully. It is not for everyone but for some Mac Laptop users with a resolution of 1440 x 900.

We noticed that the Horizon desktop scaling is set to 175%. Obviously changing the scaling back to 100% or closer, would most likely fix the issue but the display scaling is locked and says

"Some settings re managed by your system administrator. A custom scale factor is set." I cannot figure out where that custom scale factor is set. Not on the master image where it is is 100% and a custom scale factor is not set. So it must somewhere in VMware settings. In the Horizon client options selecting or de-selecting Allow Display Scaling has no effect. By default our clients Display are set to All Monitors, but changing to Full Screen does not seem to change scaling. On the master image Video card settings we have Specify Custom Settings in order to select 2 displays. 3D is not enabled. I also tried placing this setting back to Automatic and recomposing but it had not effect. When researching this I discovered quite a few complaints bout "A custom scale factor is set" but it was not VDI, just normal Windows machines. Help!

Looking for a little help.

I have workstation 16 pro on a kali linux host.  I have windows 7,8.1,XP, and 10 as VMs.  None of the VMs have internet.

I have tried bridge and nat.  Restarted the VMs and Host.

On the host I have ran vmware-network --status

It shows NAT and DHCP as not enabled and not started.

I try running vmware-network --start and Nat and DHCP fail to start.

I collected the log and sent a support for help but was told kali isn't supported.  If there is any information I can provide, I would appreciate any assistance.

Thanks!

Hello Experts ,

I have some questions about our Migration from 5.5 to 6.5 .we will replace  our virtuel datacenter equipements with new ones .

our Vcenter 5.5  is in our old domain x.local and the new one will be in our new domain y.com.

our ESXi 5.5 are not joined to the Domain .the authentication is locally and they use the DNS of our old domain x.local

before migrating to 6.5 with new Domain y.com , i would migrate our Vcenter 5.5 from x.local to y.com

Could you tel me the steps please ? i'm afraid if there will an impact to our VMS

/sbin/ntpdate -b -u <ntp server ip>

/sbin/ntpdate -d <ntp server ip>

##

    48  server <ntp server ip> iburst

    49  trustedkey

##

# /usr/sbin/ntpdc -c 'showpeer <ntp ip address>'

## /etc/ntp.conf

48  server <ntp ip address > iburst  <<<< iburst 追記
    49  trustedkey
    50
    51  tos maxdist 30        <<<< 追記

##

How to set Goal in life and Why it is important to set Goal. What is the change comes in life by setting Goal. Today you will get the answer to every question.

Have you ever traveled When you travel somewhere, you have to take a ticket to where you have to go. If you go to the ticket counter and the ticket receptionist asks you where you want to go and you will say "nowhere", will you be able to go anywhere?

Similarly, if we want to get something in our life or to reach a destination, then we must first set up a goal of our life.

Why It is Important to Set a Goal in Life:

Have you ever got a house built? Or ever seen a house being built? When we build a house, complete planning has to be done to get it built. If we do not do planning, then the structure of the house will become crooked.

The same thing applies to life too. If we do not plan about our life or do not set Goal, then our life will also become like a house without a proper structure. When we set goals in life, we know where we have to reach after a certain time and what we have to face to get there.

Hi there,

I am a beginner ESXi user and really need help with this. I did quite a lot of searching regarding this issue but unfortunately could not find a solution.

Here's my situation:

1. I am using ESXi 6.5.

2. I need to create a Windows 7 x64 VM with more than 2TB disk space --> So I need to use GPT partition --> So I need to use EFI boot method. MBR(BIOS) is not an option for me.

3. I customized the VM to boot with EFI and when I booted from the Windows installer ISO, this is what comes up:

–> EFI VMware virtual SCSI Hard Drive (0.0)… unsuccessful.

–>EFI VMware Virtual SATA CDROM Drive (1.0)… unsuccessful.

–> EFI Network…

>>Start PXE over IPv4.

4. My datastore type is VMFS6

Please tell me how to solve this problem.

Thanks in advance.

What is Goal?

Before setting the goal, let us know what the goal means. A goal is a predetermined task that a person tries to complete within a certain time frame. Different people set different goals in their life according to their wish, for example, if someone wants to become a cricketer, a singer a dancer or an artist.

Psychology also says that people who have goals in their lives have the great enthusiasm in their lives and they are also more intelligent. People who have no goal in life, their lives are very boring and tasteless, they do not have any happiness in their lives and they always complain about their lives and blame others or their luck.

What to Do While Setting a Goal:

Friends, when we build a house, we plan everything where the bedroom should be, where should the kitchen be and in this way we prepare a complete map of the house and then decide how to decorate it. Similarly, while setting goals in our life, we also have to think a lot about various things. Let's see how we should set goals in our life.

Ask yourself some questions:

It is necessary to have a conversation with yourself before setting a goal. In this conversation, you have to ask yourself some questions such as what is the thing that you want to achieve within a set time period. And how long will it take to get that thing and what strategy has to be made, what challenges will come and how to deal with them. All these questions we have to ask ourselves before setting goals.

Create a road map:

The roadmap tells you what you need to do to reach a defined goal and what things you have to face. And you will also have to make a backup plan and if one of your plans fails, then you can switch to another plan. The roadmap will guide you to reach your goal. To create a roadmap, you can take help of someone who has already achieved the goal you want to achieve.

That person will tell you what the person did and what the challenges came to meet that goal and how he / she achieved that goal and you can also make your roadmap by following the same path. You can also take help of internet to create a roadmap.

Create weekly targets:

Small goals help you to reach big goals. If you make small weekly goals, then you will be able to achieve your big goals easily by the prescribed time period. And by setting goals every week, also make sure to observe your performance, for this you can take the help of weekly reports.

Follow the roadmap as much as possible:

The more you follow the roadmap, the greater your chances of being successful. To follow the roadmap successfully, you will have to put your 100% and this will be your biggest test.

Check your performance regularly:

Merely creating a road map and setting targets is not enough. We also have to observe and analyze the work we are doing regularly, which we can do by creating weekly reports. By making weekly reports, we can see if we are following the roadmap and if not, where there is a shortage, how can that deficiency be removed?

Celebrate your Little Achievements:

You can celebrate your small successes, such as giving a treat or a small party to yourself or family or to a best friend. By doing all this, you thicken yourself to achieve more and other people also thicken you.

How can I achieve it?

Now I use NAT, and vm IP address is something like 192.168.217.128, which is not what we need.

I am a complete newbe to this stuff. I would rate myself somewhat literate in technical stuff.

This is what I want to do.

I have a legacy computer. The hardware is dieing. It will run for a while and then just freeze.  No BSOD, it just freezes. Will do this randomly. even running in safe mode. Not application program dependent. It will happen running a program or just idling. Time between failures can range from under 15 mins to over a day and a half.

The machine runs Vista. Have we stopped laughing yet? But there are a couple of legacy programs that I can't move to a different machine and were registered to this particular machine.

What I would like to do is install the VMWare Player 16 on a different computer running win7. I would then mount the drive out of the Vista machine in this computer. I would then run the VMWare Converter on the partition that is the C: drive from the Vista machine to get an image which I could the run with the VMWare Player.

Have I got this right? Any gotchas that stand out?

Are the revs of the two programs appropriate to the OSs I am running?

Will there be an issue with the Vista drive being in a different computer?

I have run some thing like this (I think) with the microsoft virtual machine running XP on win7. Is this close to the same thing?

Thanks in advance or any help or direction.
